In this sensitive time with lonely, oppressed gay cowboys in our midst, it's great to see a bizarrely retro, gay blackmail movie pop up like a zit on the pop culture landscape. Or, rather, it
would be great if the movie in question was self-aware enough to understand its own crappiness. Sure, it's fun to watch an amoral Greek twentysomething stud (Yannis Tsimitselis) try to ruin the life of the middle-aged closet case he's been doing.
Yes, it's great to be treated to the kind of soapy hysteria that goes hand in hand with pretty people involved in nefarious plots. But a movie like this needs to have a sense of its own ridiculousness, or it all falls down. Instead, the filmmakers think they've crafted a "gripping thriller," sure to be marketed on the strength of its star's beefcake qualities, and the movie crumbles under the weight of its own serious-mindedness. Plus, you'd think gay Greek party animals would be a
little more fun.
