Birth

B
Who knew Nicole Kidman liked younger men? Um, a lot younger. In this moody and quietly effective film, she falls for a 10-year-old (Godsend's Cameron Bright) who claims to be the reincarnation of her dead husband. Her engagement to Danny Huston is threatened, and her family is shocked when the kid starts rattling off things that only her late husband would know. Part thriller, part love story, Birth sidesteps manipulative frights and sappy romanticism, and continues down a European Stanley Kubrick art-house vibe. Yes, that means it's totally weird. But Kidman takes care of the arty material like the great actress she is. And for what it's worth, Bright has an eerie look that you can't help but focus on. Plus, when bath time comes around, he's the luckiest kid in the world.
