Bewitched

Nicole Kidman usually has a nose for smart projects, but here the Oscar winner wiggles hers into one big mess. In a meta move, this Bewitched update acknowledges that the TV show actually existed. Will Ferrell's character is starring in a remake and is looking for his spell-casting costar. Then Kidman, who's actually a real witch (in the movie only--at least as far as we know), falls into the role. Confusion, hilarity and love are supposed to ensue--but only confusion does. While obviously funny in bits, Ferrell can't carry the whole thing on his back (he's a mere mortal, people!), and it's plain uncomfortable to watch him as a romantic lead. And Kidman just can't do the comedy thing either. Sadly, this is anything but magical.
