Thai cinema is undergoing a renaissance. So, be a good global citizen and check the big adventure of
Suryiothai (which got a helping distribution hand from
Francis Ford Coppola) and this heroic epic being released under the "
Oliver Stone Presents" banner. The story is a more or less a true one, full of impossible odds and lost causes as a small village of courageous people fight against invading Burmese troops intent on dominating the country formerly known as Siam.
They stand their outnumbered ground through eight incredibly bloody battles, repeatedly beating back the attacking troops, until, at last, the Thai fighters fall. It sounds ugly (and it is), but it's also a moving testament to human desire and self-determination. The strong of stomach will be rewarded with a
Braveheart tale that feels truly brave.
