Everybody knows that teen mermaids need love just like everyone else. And they especially need love with hot, blond, muscular bodyguard dudes. This is a fact of mermaid life, and this documentary on the subject is--okay that's a lie, it's not really a documentary. But the squealing 14-year-old conviction on display throughout this likable, light-hearted fantasy is forceful to the point of oppression.
Positively everything hinges on best friends Claire (
Emma Roberts, son of Eric and niece of Julia) and Hailie (pop star JoJo) being able to hook up their mer-friend Aquamarine (Sara Paxton) with the object of her desire, so the race is on to create human-mermaid sparks. And what happens next? Only some serious mall shopping, hair makeovers, magic toenail painting and teen dance parties on the beach, that's what. And some happily ever after stuff too, but you'd probably guessed that already.
