The old saying that no good deed goes unpunished gets a vigorous Gallic workout in writer-director Pierre Salvadori's new black comedy. When a waiter (Daniel Auteuil) saves total stranger José Garcia from suicide, his act of kindness kicks off a mutually dependent dysfunctional relationship. Soon enough, Auteuil's life is overrun by his attempts to help Garcia--much to the dismay of his girlfriend (Marilyn Canto).
Things get worse when Auteuil tries to find Garcia's missing ex-girlfriend (the epicenter of his depression), but--
whoops!--falls for her. It sounds like real trouble, but
Apres Vous is so light on its feet that the ensuing comedy of errors brings more smiles than anything. With that said, it's totally believable when Salvadori has everything work out by the end, too.
