Mounties Detain Pitt Chasers
Members of the paparazzi targeting Brad Pitt have been finding themselves the targets of police intervention.
Three Pitt-hungry photogs have been arrested in recent days for resorting to illegal tactics to snap shots of the star on the Canadian set of his upcoming film, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.
On Tuesday, Canadian Mounties were called to a closed set north of Calgary to remove an Italian photographer who was holed up in a tree in the hopes of nabbing a money shot of the actor. The photographer, who had recently flown in from Rome, said he was unaware that he was trespassing and subsequently won't be charged.
The day before, an American photographer was arrested by police for lurking at the same set and trying to photograph Pitt. Last month, a Canadian shutterbug was arrested and charged with mischief after trespassing at Fort Edmonton, which had been closed to the public while a scene was filmed there.
The lengths that photographers will go to in order to snap covert pictures of the A-lister--particularly in the company of gal pal Angelina Jolie--should come as no surprise. Back in April, Us Weekly reportedly paid between $500,000 and $1 million for the rights to photos that showed the pair benignly strolling an African beach.
It's estimated that a shot of Pitt locking lips with his Mr. and Mrs. Smith costar would earn the lucky shutterbug who captured the moment upwards of $500,000.
Though Pitt and Jolie have yet to officially confirm their romantic status, the couple have been seen out and about together with increasing frequency of late.
Pitt's brother, Doug Pitt, recently announced that the actor's family has met Jolie and is enamored of her.
"We've met Angelina, and my family really, really likes her. She's great," he said during a business speech to the junior Rotary organization Rotaract, in Springfield, Missouri.
Not that the Pitt family is playing favorites. "Of course," Doug Pitt added, "we liked Jen too."
Pitt's divorce from Jennifer Aniston became official on Sunday. The former couple has placed the $28 million Hollywood Hills mansion they shared on the market.
With Pitt's reclamation of his single status, rumors have been rampant that he intends to surrender it once again in order to wed Jolie.
Though the gossip mill has the two swapping vows in a secret November ceremony at George Clooney's Italian villa, Clooney has denied that wedding plans are underway--at least at his pad.
"People have said they were going to get married at my house," Clooney told AP Radio in a recent interview. "Well, I would know, and I can tell you there's not going to be a secret wedding."
Pitt's rep has also denied wedding rumors as well as rumors that Jolie might possibly be pregnant with Pitt's child.
However, at the accelerated rate that some celebrities seem to progress through the various stages of relationships (we're looking at you, Tom and Katie!), who knows how long those denials will stand.
