Model Finish for Amazing Race
For Tyler Denk and James Branaman, nice and E-Z did it.
The models and recovering addicts tag team took home the Amazing Race's million-dollar prize Sunday after crossing the finish line in the globe-trotting reality-competition's 10th season.
After 40,000 miles and several months, the testosterone-fueled twosome became the first to reach the final destination in Garrison, New York, in a race that saw them get the best of fellow finalist teams Rob Diaz and Kimberly Chabolla, and Lynn Turk and Karlyn Harris.
The final leg of the trek saw all three teams attempting to make their way from Paris to New York, while encountering several roadblocks along the way.
Upon arriving at France's Caen Airport, one member of each team was required to skydive. After completing that task, and apparently confusing their show with Project Runway, teams were made to design their own jackets. Tyler and James, using their modeling experience, were the first to sew up the task.
From there, the teams angled to get on the first flight to the States, with Rob and Kimberly and Tyler and James managing to score standby seats on the earliest flight to New York. Lyn and Karyln were not so lucky and forced to catch a later flight, solidifying their third-place finish. The duo did walk away with something of a consolation prize for their efforts: They became the first all-female team to make it into the top three.
Upon arrival in New York, the teams headed for their first stop at the Daily News building, and, after months of battling it out, the winners seemed to be decided by simple dumb luck.
On their way into the city, Tyler and James' cab driver flew through a toll booth as their cabdriver was in possession of an all-important E-Z Pass. Kimberly and Rob's cabbie, on the other hand, was forced to languish in a much longer cash-only line, allowing the winners to ultimately pull into the lead.
After another stop in Manhattan's Astor Park, the final four made their way upstate to St. Basil Academy, at which point host Phil Keoghan crowned the winners and allowed the model twosome to call family and let them know they'd nabbed the top prize.
The 11th season of the Emmy-winning Amazing Race, an all-star edition, kicks off early next year.
