Mob Scene: Buscemi Talks Tony

So, I can’t help it. I have a one-track mind. Last week, I had the giddy pleasure of seeing multitalented Steve Buscemi’s Interview. It’s a two-person show in which Buscemi plays an embittered war reporter stuck interviewing a Hollywood starlet for a puff piece. Sienna Miller plays the starlet, and whoa does she grab onto this part and her trusty 12-inch lighter and just run with it. These two are on. Interview is sexy and provocative, and I was beyond excited to set my alarm clock and trek to Santa Monica to talk with Steve.
But just as he was about to leave the room, my obsessive nature got the best of me. I know we were supposed to keep it about the movie, but I simply had to know what Buscemi thought about The Sopranos finale. Hey, he directed “Pine Barrens,” widely acknowledged to be one of the best episodes.
What did you think of the finale?
I thought it was brilliant. I loved it.
Can you get over all this hype?
It’s pretty cool that people are still talking about it that way. I think David Chase hasn’t lost anything from when people were first excited about that show. I think he started with a bang and ended with a bang.
Does that mean you think Tony did die?
Really, who cares? That’s what was so cool about the ending—that anybody can have their own thoughts on it, and I don’t necessarily want to share my thoughts. I was just relieved that if anything did happen to Tony or his family that I didn’t have to witness it.
Amen.
