Missing Newton-John Beau Spotted?

Olivia Newton-John may honestly love her missing boyfriend, Patrick Kim McDermott, but if new reports relating to his mysterious disappearance can be believed, it seems her sentiments might not be reciprocated.

Almost a year ago, McDermott vanished while on an overnight fishing trip, leaving Newton-John, his family and authorities in the dark as to what happened to him, but fearful that he may have fallen overboard to his death.

Shortly thereafter, however, it was revealed the 48-year-old photographer had been involved in an ugly legal battle with his ex-wife, Yvette Nipar, over outstanding child support payments, giving rise to speculation that he may have faked his own death to escape his debts.

Lending new weight to that theory, four separate witnesses are now claiming to have spotted McDermott in Mexico since his disappearance last year, according to reports in Australia's Daily Telegraph and Herald Sun newspapers.

According to the Herald Sun, both Manuel Valdez, the owner of a bar, and Jaime Dobies, the owner of a surf camp, believe they saw McDermott within the last three months in the village of Todos Santos on Mexico's Baja Peninsula, while San Diego businessman John Brown claims to have seen him in a Cabo San Lucas bar just 11 days ago.

A fourth witness, Raul Avilez, who works at Dobies' surf camp, told the Daily Telegraph he had seen McDermott checking into a cheap Mexican beach hotel with a "mystery blonde woman."

The reported sightings come as a grand jury is preparing to look into the disappearance. However, a U.S. Coast Guard spokesman told Los Angeles' City News Service that officials had no plans to follow up on the newspaper reports, though the McDermott investigation remains open.

Last October, Newton-John told Good Morning America that she was "still hold[ing] out hope that he will come back."

"I love him very much and this is very hard to go through," the Grease star said.

Despite revelations of McDermott's legal problems at the time of his disappearance, Newton-John elected to take the high road on the subject.

"It's very much a mystery and speculation has been rife and I choose not to buy into the speculation," she told Good Morning America at the time. "This is such a personal thing for me and his family and we've chosen not to talk about it because it's an ongoing investigation."

The English-born singer has not commented publicly on the reported sightings of McDermott.
