Minnie Driving to Marry Josh
Sure, the couple's trip to the altar had been announced by a British magazine--and quickly denied by the lovebirds--in 1999, but this time, her publicist swears it's the real thing.
So once again we are duty-bound to report that Brolin, the 33-year-old actor son of James Brolin (and, by extension, Barbra Streisand's stepson) and the 30-year-old Driver are engaged. Driver's rep, Ame Van Iden, made the official confirmation Monday.
The couple's erroneous engagement was announced September 28, 1999, in Hello! (sort of the British equivalent of People), prompting an angry Driver to tell Access Hollywood that the wedding-to-be stories were "kind of hurtful." Not to mention "fictitious" and "pure fabrication."
Driver, whose breakout role in Good Will Hunting earned her an Oscar nomination, has a long history of romancing her leading men. She was previously linked to Good Will costar Matt Damon, until he broke it off with her live on Oprah. Driver then segued to Grosse Pointe Blank costar John Cusack before falling for Brolin while they filmed 1998's Slow Burn.
This will be the second matrimonial go-round for Brolin, who was previously married to actress Deborah Adair, with whom he had two children, Trevor, 12, and Eden, 8.
"It's obvious they are very much in love," Danny McKeever, Brolin's auto-racing instructor, tells People, which originally reported the latest engagement story. (Aside from Minnie Driver, Brolin also loves driving cars.)
McKeever helped coach Brolin to the checkered flag last week at the 24th annual Toyota Pro-Celebrity Race in Long Beach, California.
Driver, who does not race cars, has most recently appeared in Beautiful, directed by Sally Field, and opposite David Duchovny in Return to Me.
No wedding date is set, but that, says People, will give master wedding planner Streisand (who reportedly approves of the match) lots of time to sort out a guest list. Driver is reportedly already chummy with her betrothed's kids, as well as the elder Brolin. Josh's mother, Jane, died in 1995.
