Minnie Driver Hospitalized
After doubling over in pain on the set of her latest movie, High Heels and Lowlifes, the English actress was rushed to a London hospital, where she was diagnosed with acute appendicitis.
"Minnie had abdominal pains and was taken to the hospital on Monday, where she had her appendix taken out," said Driver's publicist, Ame Van Iden, adding the actress "is recuperating nicely and should be back to work in a few days."
While Van Iden confirmed the hospital stay, she dispelled a report by London's Daily Mirror that Driver collapsed on the set. Van Iden couldn't confirm whether, as the Mirror reported, Driver's longtime beau, Josh Brolin, was at her bedside.
There was also no word from the publicist on exactly how long Driver will spend in the hospital. However, the Mirror quotes an unnamed pal of the actress as saying the stay might be extended a few days just to be on the safe side.
"She was in terrible agony," the pal says in the Mirror. "It was totally unexpected, and she was so shocked by the amount of pain she was in. Minnie is resting up and is so relieved it is all over and that they located the problem. She was so scared that something serious was wrong."
The 30-year-old actress returned to London from her Los Angeles home last month to take on the role in the gangster comedy High Heels and Lowlifes. Driver plays a nurse who stumbles onto some privileged information and decides to use it to blackmail a bunch of bank robbers.
"I start off as the good girl-next-door, but by the end of it I'm a real fun-loving, swinging vixen," says Driver, describing the part.
An Oscar nominee for 1997's Good Will Hunting, Driver was most recently seen in last year's comedy of manners An Ideal Husband and this year's Return to Me opposite David Duchovny.
