Michael Jackson Caught on Film
Two months after he slipped out of the public eye following his acquittal on child-molestation charges, Michael Jackson slipped back in this week, looking not too unlike his old self: Dark sunglasses, black fedora, black pants, brightly colored long-sleeved shirts.
No word on the whereabouts of the armband.
Pictures of Jackson taking in the sights of Dubai, a city-state of the United Arab Emirates, surfaced Monday, the pop star's 47th birthday.
The shots are said to be the first photographic evidence of Jackson since June 13, when he exited a Santa Maria, California, courtroom a free man acquitted of all criminal charges.
When last spied, Jackson appeared thin and frail, as befitting one who frequently visited the hospital as jurors deliberated the molestation case.
In the Dubai pictures, Jackson appears thin, but not necessarily frail, as befitting one who has been staying at royal digs in the neighboring Persian Gulf nation of Bahrain since late June.
The Associated Press has the most extensive account of Jackson's Dubai tour, noting his visit to a hotel, an under-construction resort and a Hard Rock Cafe.
"We went there because he [Jackson] wanted to eat Buffalo wings," Mohammed Bin Sulayem, a rally-car driver who helped act as the entertainer's tour guide, told the wire service.
The Hard Rock Cafe in Dubai serves chicken, or Buffalo, wings in three varieties: Classic Rock (with medium dipping sauce), Tangy Bar-B-Que (barbecue) and Heavy Metal (hot). It was not clear which Jackson sampled. The finger food, however, is a presumed caloric upgrade from the sandwiches Jermaine Jackson said his sibling was eating in order to bolster his strength, post trial.
Buffalo wings and all, the Persian Gulf seems to be making an impression on Jackson, who was reported to be mulling a purchase in Bahrain. And Jackson, recently chewed out, and fined, in absentia by a U.S. judge for missing a court date on a sexual-assault lawsuit, seems to be making an impression on the Persian Gulf.
"He was so nice. I wanted him to be like this," Bin Sulayem told the AP. "What you read and what you see is different. The guy is a gentleman."
And a snappy, if not predictable, dresser.
