Michael, Family Face D.A.

The Jackson five--Janet, Jermaine, Jackie, Randy and LaToya--came together for brother Michael on Monday.

The cause for the family reunion, also attended by Jackson paternal units Joe and Katherine, was a dramatic court hearing in the Michael Jackson molestation case.

The Jacksons, not including Joe and Katherine, dressed in white for the occasion of seeing Michael's chief nemesis, Santa Barbara County District Attorney Thomas Sneddon, take the stand regarding his actions in the early days of the child-abuse investigation.

Defendant Michael accessorized his all-white ensemble with a mustard-yellow armband. Supporter and older brother Jermaine topped off his outfit with a sheer, flowing kaftan.

Sneddon, meanwhile, wore an attitude.

Defense attorney Thomas Mesereau Jr.'s questioning of Sneddon was a testy affair, with Superior Court Judge Rodney Melville warning Sneddon not to be argumentative and Mesereau not to be sarcastic, the Los Angeles Times reported.

At issue was a defense charge that Sneddon violated Jackson's attorney-client privilege by seizing videotapes from a private investigator who worked for Jackson's then lawyer Mark Geragos.

The PI's Beverly Hills office was raided by investigators on the same day last November that authorities swarmed Jackson's Neverland Ranch in Santa Barbara County, en route to accusing the entertainer of molesting a 12-year boy who had bunked at Neverland.

On Monday, Sneddon testified he didn't know the private eye, Bradley Miller, was working for Geragos, the Times said.

If the judge rules Sneddon overstepped his authority, materials seized from Miller's office won't be allowed as evidence.

While Sneddon's testimony was much-anticipated, courtroom reporter Diane Dimond said on Court TV that the Jacksons seemed a bit sleepy during the morning session, with Joe Jackson closing his eyes.

The mood outside the Santa Maria, California, courtroom was circus-like, per usual. Reports placed the number of Michael Jackson supporters at about 100. That's not as many as past Jackson appearances, but those there were no less ardent, with a number of fan-made signs declaring Jackson's innocence.

Jackson, meanwhile, made his usual low-key entrance in a double-decker bus.

Jackson also had a quiet weekend, attending Sunday services at Los Angeles' politically powerful black church, First African Methodist Episcopal Church--an appearance documented by TV cameras, and attended to by bodyguards, radio-TV host Steve Harvey and brother Randy Jackson.

Less quieting on Sunday for Jackson was the leaking of the results of a California state probe into the "Beat It" singer's allegations that he was "manhandled" by Santa Barbara County Sheriff's deputies during his booking on the molestation charges last November.

Jackson made the allegations, including ones where he said deputies "dislocated, literally" his shoulder and locked him a room decorated with "doo doo," on CBS' 60 Minutes in December.

After interviewing 163 witnesses, including members of Jackson's own staff, and spending 2,500 hours investigating the claims, the state attorney general's office said it "did not uncover verifiable information" that Jackson was roughed up, per a report posted on CBSNews.com.

The 45-year-old Jackson, indicted in April on 10 counts of molestation, conspiracy and plying a child with wine, has pleaded innocent to all charges. He is free on $3 million bail. His trial is scheduled to begin Jan. 31.

That date, an extension from the original Sept. 13 trial date, should give the original Jackson 5--Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon, Tito and, of course, Michael--enough time to get their travel and fashion plans coordinated.
