Eddie Murphy wanted a paternity test, he got one.

After months of first disputing then keeping quiet about the paternity of ex-girlfriend Melanie Brown's daughter, the Dreamgirls star has been genetically matched, the singer's publicist told E! News.

"Eddie is the father and the rumors are true," said Liza Anderson.

As ever, Murphy spokesman Arnold Robinson declined to confirm the developments, reiterating that he does not comment on his client's personal life.

Both parties were informed of the news Thursday afternoon, when they received the results of a DNA test provided by Murphy and two-month-old Angel Iris Murphy Brown on June 11.

After giving his sample, the Oscar nominee told reporters outside the Beverly Hills office that he "absolutely...[would] do the right thing" if he was found to be the biological daddy.

The results vindicate the erstwhile Scary Spice, who has long maintained that Murphy was not only the father of her child, but that the pregnancy was actually planned while Brown and Murphy were briefly coupled last fall.

However, Murphy appeared on a Dutch talk show in December and responded to the interview's query about the pregnancy by saying, "We don't know whose child that is until it comes out and has a blood test."

Such comments, Brown said, left her "upset and distressed" and she insisted that "there is absolutely no question" that he was the father.

After the child was born Apr. 3—the same day as Murphy—Brown listed him on the birth certificate. She also threatened a paternity suit against Murphy.

The child is the second offspring for Brown, who also has an eight-year-old daughter, Phoenix, from her marriage to dancer Jimmy Guzlar. It's the sixth child for Murphy, who already has five kids from his marriage to ex-wife Nicole Mitchell.

Meanwhile, Brown's maternity leave may be short-lived.

Earlier Friday, 19 Entertainment, the British-based company run by Spice Girl svengali Simon Fuller, announced that there would be an official statement about the girl-powered fivesome. There has been rampant speculation in recent weeks that Brown, Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham, Melanie "Sporty Spice" Chisholm, Geri "Ginger Spice" Halliwell and Emma "Baby Spice" Bunton were ready to reunite for a tour and/or album.

"The Spice Girls are set to make an official announcement to the world regarding future plans on Thursday, June 28," a statement from the company said. "Details regarding the announcement will be released in the coming days."
