McConaughey Fight Film Hits Back

This latest film has been a real cut above for Matthew McConaughey

The actor had to get stitches in his face several weeks ago after he was injured while training for a fight scene in his upcoming comedy The Grackle, publicist Alan Nierob confirmed Monday to E! Online.

Nierob didn't go into detail about the extent of McConaughey's injury, but he said in an email that "it was weeks ago and he's already pretty much healed."

The 38-year-old Texan has been studying Ultimate Fighting Championship-style techniques for his role as a fast-talking type who hires himself out for $250 a pop to people who need a score settled but can't afford a lawyer. The Sahara star's J.K. Livin production company is bringing The Grackle to the big screen for New Line Cinema.

Celebrity photo agency X17 Online snapped McConaughey sporting a bandage over his left eye as he left a Beverly Hills medical office last week, sometime after he eulogized Evel Knievel at the daredevil's funeral Tuesday in Butte, Montana.

Before audiences get a load of McConaughey's knuckle-sandwich-making skills, however, he's reteaming with How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days costar Kate Hudson for the comedy Fool's Gold, in theaters Feb. 8.

The known fitness buff spent the summer in Australia shooting the comedy Surfer Dude, in which he plays a typically laidback beach bum who's on the hunt for more than the perfect wave after experiencing an existential crisis.
