The Mary Ann-Mary Jane Connection?
A TV station in West Virginia is reporting that Dawn Wells, who played wholesome farm girl Mary Ann Summers on Gilligan's Island, is linked to the pot package that led to the arrest of Castaway costar Bob Denver.
The Charleston-based CBS affiliate, quoting a source close to the investigation, did not elaborate on the Wells angle.
The actress' spokesman denies the report: "All I know is she had no involvement."
Denver, meanwhile, is free on $1,000 bond after being formally arrested by West Virgina police yesterday.
Authorities say they confiscated an ounce and a half, or 45 grams, of marijuana at the home of the erstwhile Gilligan on Wednesday.
Of that, 35 grams were found in a package mailed to Denver, police said. Another 10 grams were found elsewhere in the house, as was drug paraphernalia, police said.
All told, the pot allegedly confiscated had a street value of $450.
"He was very apologetic over the incident and remorseful," Lt. Bruce McNeill, of the Regional Unified Drug Enforcement Task Force, in Beckley, West Virginia, told Associated Press.
The actor has been arraigned on misdeameanor possession charges. He faces up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
But McNeill told the New York Post that Denver, 63, probably won't do as much as a three-hour tour behind bars.
"It's not a big crime. It wasn't a large amount of drugs," McNeill said.
The bust occurred, officials said, after West Virginia police were tipped off by authorites in Colorado that a funny package was headed to Denver (the man, not the city).
As Gilligan and Mary Ann, respectively, on Gilligan's Island (1964-67), Denver and Wells often partook in exotic island plant concoctions. One episode, for instance, featured the Minnow survivors feasting on 'shrooms that left Mary Ann delusional.
While the Mary Ann connection (if any) to the Denver bust is unclear, the Skipper, the Millionaire and His Wife have been cleared of suspicion on account of they're all dead.
