Mary-Louise Parker Grows As a Mom

Mary-Louise Parker may have gone home empty-handed Sunday, but she returned to a full house.

The Weeds star has adopted a baby girl from Africa, the actress' rep confirmed to E! News. The mother-daughter duo was spotted over the weekend as the 43-year-old actress prepped for her appearance at the Emmys last night.

"Mary-Louise is such an incredible mom," a source close to the actress told People, which first reported the adoption. "She couldn't be happier about this."

This is the second child for Parker, who has a three-year-old son, Will, with ex-boyfriend Billy Crudup.

Parker, who was nominated twice this year for her role as pot-selling suburbanite Nancy Botwin on the dark comedy Weeds and for her lead role in the TV movie The Robber Bride, won a supporting actress Emmy in 2004 for the HBO miniseries Angels in America.

And despite her trés convincing performance as Nancy, the increasingly busy stage and screen star has a far better handle on single motherhood.

"There are a lot of things I just would not attempt, but taking care of someone—I know how to do," she told People after her son was born.  "I know how to do that, and I enjoy doing that."

While the third season of Weeds is in full swing on Showtime, Parker can also be seen on the big screen starting Friday in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, which earned Brad Pitt a Best Actor award at the Venice Film Festival. She'll be in theaters again next year in The Spiderwick Chronicles, based on the bestselling children's series, due out Feb. 15.

Next up for Parker, besides those late-night feedings, is more Weeds and the romantic comedy Les Passages with Julie Delpy.
