Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes presented the paparazzi with an all-new photo op Saturday night when they dined out with the top gun's oldest daughter, Isabella, at Hollywood celebrity haunt Il Sole.

A restaurant source tells E! News the trio were joined by Katie's All My Sons costar John Lithgow and his wife, but that they reportedly didn't eat very much and simply shared a little steak tartare and pasta.

"Katie appeared tired and gaunt and didn't say much throughout the meal," says the source. "She sat across from Tom, who appeared in great spirits. In fact, as they exited the back door of the restaurant, Tom popped his head into the kitchen to shake hands with the chef and thank the kitchen crew."

As for our TomKat's beloved Suri, she apparently opted to sit this one out…

Of course, the spotlight-stealing tyke's decision to do so definitely won't create the same speculation that cropped up surrounding her whereabouts when she was first born, including talk she didn't even exist.

"Some of the stuff [people said] was such absolutely horrible things to say about a child," Katie tells Glamour in its April issue. "It was so uncalled for and so disgusting. Enough is enough."

But Tom, who certainly knows a thing or two about rumors, was very supportive.

"We were changing diapers. He said, 'I don't want you to get upset.' And I said, 'Well, I am upset.' So we approached it together. But I definitely felt like—as a woman, as the mother of Suri—I want to handle this! My mom is very strong, and if anyone ever said anything about any of us, she would be, ‘Excuse me?’ That’s my family!’ ”

As for what Katie would like to tell those who spread such stuff?

"Sometimes I think I would say, 'Why don't you come over and have dinner? See what there is to see."

Katie, we're open to an invitation any time!
