The New York literati came out yesterday to the city's legendary Four Seasons restaurant to toast Philip Pullman, author of The Golden Compass.
Among those at the invite-only luncheon were Salman Rushdie, Nora Ephron, Dominick Dunne, Charlie Rose, Bob Balaban and Paula Zahn. Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne, head honchos at New Line Cinema, also stopped by.
New Line will release the movie adaptation of The Golden Compass, starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig, in early December.
The book, part of the popular His Dark Materials fantasy trilogy, is about a tomboyish young girl named Lyra who's trying to find a lost boy and escape an organization of very bad people with the help of, among other things, armored bears.
