Rosie Votes Republican for New View Cohost
ABC/Yolanda Perez, Jamie McCarthy/WireImage.com
Rosie O'Donnell already has a Republican to argue with on The View . She and Elisabeth Hasselbeck have made headlines sparring on issues like the war in Iraq and gun control.
But leave it to O'Donnell to want more. A reader of O'Donnell's blog recently asked her, "If you could choose someone to fill the cohost spot on The View, who would it be?"
O'Donnell's response? Georgette Mosbacher!
For those unfamiliar with Mosbacher, she is one of the Republican Party's leading activists and biggest fundraisers. Not only was she the national cochair of Senator John McCain's 2000 presidential campaign, but Mosbacher is currently the cochair of the Republican National Committee's finance committee. During the presidential administration of George H. W. Bush, she was married to Robert Mosbacher Sr., one of the president's best buddies and a former Secretary of Commerce. They've since divorced.
Whether Mosbacher, 60, wants a spot at The View's table is up in the air. When asked for comment about O'Donnell's wish, Mosbacher told me through a rep, "It certainly would redefine the definition of bipartisanship."
And it certainly would redefine Mosbacher's career. Today, she is the CEO of cosmetics company Borghese. She's no stranger to O'Donnell or The View, though. In October, Mosbacher appeared as a guest and gave audience members Borghese gift bags worth $280. About a month before that, O'Donnell first met Mosbacher at a New York City performance by Elaine Stritch. O'Donnell wrote on her blog:
sitting 2 my right
georgette mosbacher
who i am officially obsessed with
triple love her
and a republican even!!!!!
Barbara Walters and O'Donnell's rep (they have the same one) says a new cohost has still not been chosen: "No one knows who's going to fill that seat, not even Barbara."
