The Richie-Madden Elation

Lionel Richie has nothing but endless love for his new granddaughter.

The Grammy-winning singer, whose baby welcomed a baby last week, said Tuesday he's still adjusting to his new "grand" status, but otherwise he is overjoyed to have another lady in his life.

"While it may take me a moment to adjust to being called grand dad, I am extremely happy and proud of Nicole and Joel," Richie said in a statement.

"Harlow Winter Kate Madden, the newest and most beautiful addition to the Richie clan, is a lucky little girl. She was surrounded by a great deal of love at that hospital as she entered the world. Nicole and Joel are going to be wonderful parents."

Harlow was born Friday at 3:13 p.m. at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, weighing six pounds, seven ounces and measuring 19 inches long.

Her mom and dad brought her home Monday, where Madden plunged right into his role as doting dad.

"She looks so much like her mom it's crazy!" the Good Charlotte frontman wrote on his Website, where he also pushes his DCMA clothing line—which now features onesies and other baby-size gear, natch.

"She eats like a little maniac and she's really sweet. She barely ever cries, even when daddy is changing her diaper, and believe me, I suck when it comes to diapers, but I'm learning! I can't wait to show off some pictures…"

In honor of their new arrival, Richie and Madden have started their own eponymous philanthropic foundation to benefit young needy families and promote awareness of health care, education and other issues most pertinent to raising children. Madden asked that fans send donations to their organization in lieu of cards, flowers and other personal congratulatory gestures.

"We want our child to be a part of the community, and to know that there's a responsibility to help the community," Madden said when the Richie-Madden Children's Foundation launched in November.

"I owe this baby my life. I owe this baby everything, and I have a responsibility now for someone else," Richie said during an appearance on Good Morning America last summer. "I have to set the right examples. I want to be the best parent I can be. I would really want to be someone my child would look up to."
