Record Numbers Hit the Runway Premiere

Project Runway Season 5 Bravo

New York is obviously the place to see and be seen. Well, being Heidi Klum helps with the latter.

Nearly 3 million people tuned in to the fifth-season premiere of Project Runway last night, giving Bravo its largest-ever audience for a series season premiere, according to figures released by the network.

And of the 2.915 million who tuned in for the Peabody Award-winning competition show's last season on Bravo before it heads to Lifetime, a record 1.81 million fell into that oh-so-important 18-49-year-old bracket, the age group most attractive to the advertisers who stick all those annoying commercials in between snips of the scissors.

Both numbers were all-time highs for Bravo in that 9-10 p.m. Wednesday time slot, an hour earlier than Project Runway's past spot in the prime-time schedule, during which the network was also the top-watched cable net across all demographics.

BravoTV.com also saw a 35 percent spike in page views in relation to the series fourth-season premiere, 3.1 million vs. 2.3 million.

And just as every batch of aspiring designers is at some point asked to create a look for a celeb, Bravo's schedulers have been able to build a sweet schedule around its fashion-savvy flagship.

Whether it's because people were too blissed out by the first "auf wiedersehen" of the summer to change the channel or not, the fourth second-season episode of Shear Genius, which aired at 10 p.m., attracted a series-high 2.2 million viewers and became only the fifth Bravo program ever to break the 2-million-viewer mark.

And as a prelude to all this good news, Tuesday's episode of Flipping Out, which featured the fallout from the nanny cam, also enjoyed its best-ever numbers.

The quirky real-estate-centered reality series sold 1.14 million people on its charms, enjoying a 67 percent spike in total viewership from last week and topping 1 million viewers for the first time.
