Pattinson and Stewart: The New Combs and Lopez?

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are so Sean "Puffy" Combs and Jennifer Lopez.

Lemme explain...

Back in the late 90s, I was a reporter for the New York Daily News. At the time, Combs and Lopez were the biggest superstars around. But they weren't quick to confirm or deny they were an actual couple.

It wasn't until Combs' first annual white party at his house in the Hamptons that we finally got an answer...

During the night, Combs and Lopez stepped out onto a balcony overlooking the party. Everyone looked up. Mr. Combs wrapped his arms around Lopez and the two locked lips.

It was official. They were a couple.

But the story didn't really become a story right away. It was before cellphone cameras, digital cameras and celebrity and entertainment blogs. We were able to break the big news days later in the newspaper.

So Pattinson and Stewart is nothing new. FYI: Combs and Lopez also held hands in public.

So if Pattz and Stewart make it official with some sort of confirmation (with a kiss on a balcony overlooking a party? Don't bet on it), let's just hope their future is brighter than the romance of Combs and Lopez.

Those two called it quits after more than two years of dating.
