Kathy Griffin has famously skewered Whitney Houston in her stand-up for years.
But she certainly wasn't cracking jokes last night...

"I saw her here at this event last year and the thing is, when you saw Whitney Houston, you know you were looking at a superstar," Griffin told me last night at the Clive Davis and the Recording Academy gala at the Beverly Hilton.
Griffin said she probably won't be mocking Houston again.
"You know, I'm also a fan," she said. "I am a fan of so many people that I tease and bring up in my act. Whitney was certainly someone that I knew. I hosted awards shows that she was in. I went to her concerts. She didn't lip sync. She was just so awesome."
