Jessica's Dolly Dilemma Dissolved

Jessica Simpson says all is forgiven between her and Dolly Parton.

It was back in December when Simpson forgot the words to “9 to 5” while singing the classic tune in honor of Parton at Kennedy Center Honors. The performance was so bad, Simpson was cut from the lineup when the gala aired on television.

“I failed,” Simpson says in the new issue of Self magazine. “I let people down. But Dolly wrote me the kindest words. She said, ‘I will always love you,’ and ‘Don’t listen to what these people are saying,’ and ‘I can’t remember those words when I sing that damn song, and I wrote it.’ ”

Simpson blamed her disastrous performance on being nervous after her voice cracked three months earlier while singing on the Today show.

Simpson was chosen by Self editors as one of this year’s 10 Most Inspiring Women because of her charity work with Casa Hogar Elim, an orphanage in Nuevo Loredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, and Operation Smile, an organization that helps repair cleft palates of children in need.

Simpson said she decided to end her marriage to Nick Lachey after taking a humanitarian trip to Kenya, Africa.

When asked about the Team Jessica and Team Nick T-shirts sold during their breakup, Simpson laughed: “I received those in the mail like it was an honor or something! People out there need to go to third-world countries and sit with children for a little bit.”

So, how does Ms. Simpson deal with being picked on in the press? “I write in my journal,” she said. “I believe in therapy as well.”
