James Van Der Beek may not trust the, uh, tenant in apartment 23, but he so loves Mother Earth!

In fact, he's getting wet and wild with the hot mama...

Of course, we're talking about Van Der Beek's eco-friendly family life.

"We've got a solar-heated pool," he told us at the Trident Liberate Fun Tax Day event in Hollywood. "It works pretty well in the summer. It doesn't work quite so well in the wintertime. It's old school: the panels go up on a heating coil on the roof and the sun heats it and it goes back down."

But that's not all they do.

"We buy organic, we recycle, drive a diesel car," he said. "Organic, non-toxic cleaning supplies, everything from dishwasher to detergent and soap."

"My wife made her own almond milk yesterday," he added. "We're very much into that."

Sounds yummy!

Van Der Beek also told us about how 1-year-old daughter Olivia is getting used to younger brother Joshua. Wife Kimberly gave birth to him just one month ago.

"She is an amazing big sister," he gushed. "She's just reacted so well. It totally surprised me. Don't ever put anything past kids. They will surprise you in the best ways."

Cute!
