Isaiah Washington GLAAD to Go Public

Back from his trip to the dark side, Isaiah Washington is gearing up to put his best face forward.

The tabloid-friendly Grey's Anatomy star will be appearing in a public service announcement on behalf of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, the organization confirmed to E! Online.

Continuing his image makeover in the wake of his verbal slipup at the Golden Globes in January, which provoked outrage from several civil rights groups, including GLAAD, Washington is planning to shoot the PSA in the next few weeks.

The 43-year-old actor was called out for telling reporters backstage, right after Grey's was named Best TV Drama Series at the Globes, that he had never called costar T.R. Knight a "faggot" during a dustup on the set back in October.

Not quite realizing that saying something isn't the best way to prove that you would never say it, Washington was lambasted by GLAAD, which called for an apology to the gay community, his fellow actors and ABC, which seemed thisclose to ousting him from revoking his tenure at Seattle Grace.

Luckily for Washington and his future in Hollywood, he was able to nip the fallout in the bud, issuing a heartfelt mea culpa and entering treatment to work out what appeared to be his anger management and tolerance issues.

"With one word, I've hurt everyone who has struggled for the respect so many of us take for granted. I welcome the chance to meet with leaders of the gay and lesbian community to apologize in person and to talk about what I can do to heal the wounds I've opened," Washington said following the incident in January.

He did indeed meet with leaders from GLAAD and the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network soon afterward to discuss his use of that offensive word and what he could do to further the education of others to discourage intolerance and prejudice against the gay community.

GLAAD isn't yet commenting on the content for Washington's PSA, but it will presumably take all of the above into consideration.

Washington also recently passed on submitting his name for a Supporting Actor Emmy nomination, with publicist Howard Bragman saying, "It's all about acting, not the awards" for the star of the upcoming indie drama The Least of These.

The acting, and staying out of the glaring spotlight for awhile.

As for whether Washington's place on Grey's is safe, Bragman said that, as far as Dr. Preston Burke knows, he'll be scrubbing up for a fourth season.
