Gisele Bündchen Gets Sucked Into Breastfeeding Controversy

Supermodel takes to her blog to clarify controversial comments she made to magazine about being a new mom

Gisele Bündchen is pretty to look at it, but the backlash she's getting for her recent remarks about breastfeeding is ugly.

The supermodel mom is quoted in the new Harper's Bazaar UK advocating for a law requiring new moms to breastfeed.

"Some people [in the U.S.] think they don't have to breastfeed, and I think, 'Are you going to give chemical food to your child, when they are so little?'" Bündchen said. "There should be a worldwide law, in my opinion, that mothers should breast feed their babies for six months."

Not only does a rep for the 30-year-old Brazilian beauty insist to us that her statement about the law was taken "out of context", but Bündchen also posted a "special message" on her blog yesterday to try and clarify the apparent legal grandstanding.

"My intention in making a comment about the importance of breastfeeding has nothing to do with the law," she wrote. "It comes from my passion and beliefs about children. Becoming a new mom has brought a lot of questions. I feel like I am in a constant search for answers on what might be the best for my child."

Bündchen also said she is not judging other mothers for what they do or don't do.

"I'm sure if I would just be sitting and talking about my experiences with other mothers, we would just be sharing opinions," she wrote. "I understand that everyone has their own experience and opinions and I am not here to judge. I believe that bringing a life into this world is the single most important thing a person can undertake and it can also be the most challenging. I think as mothers we are all just trying our best."

In other words, Ms. Bündchen has no plans on lobbying lawmakers to legislate mandatory breastfeeding.
