Will the real Mrs. X please stand up!
Not so fast.
You may have heard that movie mogul Harvey Weinstein's latest publicity stunt includes offering $100,000 to the person who first correctly identifies the real Upper East Side socialite who may have inspired Mrs. X, the monster mom portrayed in The Nanny Diaries.

However, Nanny coauthors Nicola Kraus and Emma Mclaughlin (at right) insist there is no such person, and that the character is a composite of many people they met while working as nannies in New York City. “We worked for so many people,” Kraus said. “It would be great to think there was just one a-hole on the Upper East Side.”
Mclaughlin added, “It is not one person!”
They both agree that Laura Linney, who costars as Mrs. X in the movie adaptation, nailed it as the icy control-freak boss from hell who torments Annie Braddock, the nanny played by Scarlett Johansson. “Laura Linney is such a gentle, kind person. But she would get that costume on and they would say, ‘Action,’ and just this rage would come vibrating from under her skin,” Kraus said. “Emma and I stayed far away from her. It was scary.”

They may want to avoid Usher, too.
Why? Because of Dedication, Kraus and Mclaughlin’s most recent novel. It's about a woman who confronts her high school sweetheart 20 years after graduation because he went on to become a successful pop singer after using their relationship as inspiration for his biggest hits.
Kraus and Mclaughlin, both 33, said Dedication was inspired by Usher and his 2004 album, Confessions, which was reportedly based on a lot of the singer’s failed romance with Chilli of TLC.
“That album was ubiquitous,” Mclaughlin said. “You could not go anywhere without it pumping out of every car, every restaurant. We couldn’t stop thinking about it. We were like, How is Chili not killing herself right now?”
Dedication movie adaptation, here they come. Hopefully, if Usher isn't offended by the tome, he'd be up for playing the pop singer, Kraus and Mclaughlin said.
As for the woman ready to take on her ex-beau?
“Beyoncé!” Kraus said. “Someone fabulous.”
