Dolly Don't Dance!
ABC/Richard Cartwright
All hail, Dolly Parton!
If you watched Dancing with the Stars last night, you saw my idol Ms. Parton perform two songs, her classic "9 to 5" and her new single "Better Get to Livin.' "
What you didn’t see—or hear, for that matter—was what went on when the cameras weren't rolling.
I was in the audience, and get this, she told the crowd she has actually been offered a shot to be a contestant on the hit ABC reality competition show. "They’ve asked me to dance before," Parton said, "but I have visions of Billy Ray."

Billy Ray, of course, is former contestant and fellow country crooner Billy Ray Cyrus, who was the seventh to be eliminated during the last season of Dancing. Parton quickly added she was only jokin’ about Cyrus, whom she called a friend.
The country queen also gave a brief update on the upcoming Broadway musical adaptation of 9 to 5. We should be seeing it in about a year and a half, she said. But don’t go lookin’ for her in the show. "They sad I was too old to be a secretary now!" she said.
What you may not realize about Dancing is that musical numbers like Parton's and also last night's incredible tap-dancing by Savion Glover are pretaped about an hour or two before the show goes live.
What that meant last night is Parton had to sing "9 to 5" twice. I'm certainly not complaining, but in the first take Parton accidentally spoke over some of host Tom Bergeron’s lines as she ended her performance.
"I’m the one screwed it up," Parton said, adding with a laugh, "I need to practice more—and I've been singing that for 25 years!"
Meanwhile, judge Bruno Tonioli played waiter during a break in filming. "I’m going to get a martini," he told audience members sitting behind the judge's table. "Anyone want a martini? Are you good tippers?"
