Britney: Out and About After Rehab
Britney Spears has emerged from her postrehab seclusion.
The pop star, who checked out of the Promises facility in Malibu last Tuesday, spent her first weekend out of treatment engaging in familiar pastimes—hitting the salon, shopping, dining with friends and taking hip-hop dance classes, according to various reports.
But it wasn't all fun and games for Spears, who also took time out to attend an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting and made an emergency trip to the dentist after breaking a molar.
Her manager, Larry Rudolph, was quick to clarify that the visit to Century City Medical Plaza on Sunday was nothing serious.
"She just went to the dentist," Rudolph told Hollywood.com's That Other Blog. "She had a toothache. I have no more details."
A building employee at the medical plaza told Us Weekly that Spears obligingly smiled for the waiting cameras, but "the moment she got into the elevators she was complaining to her bodyguards that it was unfair her tooth was broken, but she couldn't take painkillers."
When Spears left the medical plaza after a 45-minute visit, police were called in to manage the media hordes waiting for the singer.
Officers reportedly went so far as to set up roadblocks to prevent more than two dozen paparazzi vehicles from trailing Spears as her bodyguard drove her home.
Spears caused another media frenzy earlier in the weekend when she dropped by the Epitome Salon in Bel-Air, where she reportedly got a spray-on tan and flipped through books of hair samples, perhaps preparing for the day when her buzzed-off locks are long enough to support extensions once again.
Unsurprisingly, the trip to the salon attracted a swarm of paparazzi and onlookers, with over 40 people jostling to get a glimpse of Spears through the building's window.
"Given what she did the last time she popped into a hair salon, there was no telling what she would do next, and no one wanted to miss whatever happened," an eyewitness told E! Online.
Police were eventually called to the scene to make the photographers disperse, while a camera-shy Spears left the salon via the back door, where her bodyguard was waiting to drive her home.
Though Spears is no stranger to media attention, the encounter reportedly left her shaken enough to cancel her scheduled dinner plans out on the town with Rudolph that night, opting to dine at home instead.
"It's sad because she wanted to go out publicly and show everyone she was okay, especially Saturday night, because it was Kevin's birthday," a source close to Spears told E! Online.
"She didn't want people to think she was home depressed while he was having this big party in Vegas."
While Spears was holed up at home, Kevin Federline was indeed celebrating his 29th birthday at Las Vegas nightclub Pure, with guests including his pre-Spears squeeze, Shar Jackson, with whom he has two children.
One-year-old Sean Preston and seven-month-old Jayden James also traveled to Sin City to celebrate their father's birthday, along with assorted Federline family members, People reported.
