Malibu Clambake Reels in Über-Large Lobsters and a Lotta Paris

I’m back in Malibu for the Lia Sophia Clambake, where last year Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan reenacted Mean Girls with their vicious behavior. There are no catfights yet, but it’s still early. The marine layer is just starting to lift and girls are taking off their cover-ups to get some sun. Luckily, Clinique is on hand with sunscreen to ensure guests don’t burn while lying out on the bright blue Boost Mobile towels scattered across the sand.

Keeping It Real Estate
“I love Malibu,” Paris tells me when she arrives. “It’s really relaxing and healing to be by the beach.” The sunshine sure has done the heiress good—she’s shining just as brightly as her crystal blue Lia Sophia necklace. “I’m looking for a house,” she says. “I definitely want to buy something out here.” Watch out, Jennifer Aniston, a new blonde is moving onto the ‘Bu block.

Working Woman Winds Down
Speaking of relocation, Paris’ old pal Taryn Manning is selling the first house she has ever owned. Aside from real estate, the blonde, who is “finally emerging” after breaking her foot, has been keeping busy juggling three careers: acting (she just wrapped up Jack and Jill vs. the World with Freddie Prinze Jr.), singing (she’s coming out with her second album) and designing (her knitwear lifestyle line, Born Unicorn, is about to debut). 

With her feverish work schedule, it’s no wonder Taryn has been largely absent from the party scene. Though age also has a bit to do with it. “I love music and I love to dance, don’t get me wrong,” she tells me. “But some of the younger kids that go out—and I used to be one of them—they’re kinda pushy. If I get hit or a drink spills on my nice dress, I can’t bounce back the way I used to.” I suggest she refrain from walking past Luke Wilson, considering the numerous tequila shots and beers going his way. Taryn seems to take my advice and walks upstairs in her pretty yellow dress to relax courtesy of a Sports Club/LA massage therapist.

King of the Sea
To give Luke a break, he’s not just getting smashed. He’s also indulging in the biggest lobsters I’ve ever seen—and I went to college in New England! “They’re about $600 apiece,” the private chef tells me. “We flew them in from Maine.” Even starlets on strict diets are indulging in the succulent seafood. Besides Paris, the lobsters are the biggest hit of the party.

Accessories Galore
While guests freshen up their hair at the Garnier styling chairs, I get a personal viewing of this season’s collection. “It spoke to this event,” Lia Sophia designer Dani Stahl says of the white, blue and metallic jewelry. “All the pieces are compatible with each other,” adds Elena Kiam, who founded the company with her husband, Tory. “It allows people to put their own mark of individuality by wearing it differently.”

The Missing Crowd
After hanging by the beach for a couple of hours, Paris takes her new, adorably dressed Yorkie and prances back to her pad, followed by a stampeding swarm of paparazzi, of course. Meanwhile, Samantha Ronson, who’s taking a break from the deejay booth today, gets some jewels while boys like Jesse Metcalfe and Cisco Adler chill outside. “I'm a beach baby,” Cisco tells me between sips of his beer. “I belong here, and I like when Hollywood comes out here so I don't have to drive there.”

Except not all of Hollywood has made it out to Malibu—many are in Las Vegas. I get word that Lindsay is soberly partying it up at Pure to celebrate her rehab release. Also at the Sin City club are Hills members Lauren “L.C.” Conrad and Brody Jenner, which confuses me a bit since a ‘Bu party guest extremely close to Brody says he’s dating Haylie Duff. Maybe they have an open relationship, because I hear Brody is looking pretty cozy next to his ex at Pure. There may not have been a catfight today, but I’m predicting one in the near future.
