Madonna: Like a Vintner

Normally, when you hear "bottoms up" and "Madonna" in the same sentence, you probably think of, say, page 57 in Sex, not Pinot Grigio.

But it's true, the Material Girl is seeking to drive fans to drink. To celebrate her latest chart-topping album, Confessions on a Dancefloor, Madonna has teamed with Celebrity Cellars for her own signature line of wines.

The wines--including a California Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Grigio, as well as a nonalcoholic version called UnWine (looks like we'll have to wait for that Borderline Bordeaux)--feature special collectible bottles. One image features the 47-year-old entertainer illuminated by a sparkly mirror ball; another is based on the Confessions album cover.

The series is now available online at CelebrityCellars.com.

Although Madonna has already proven herself as a Grammy-winning, multiplatinum-selling recording artist, Golden Globe-winning movie star and best-selling author, fans might not realize that she is also something of an oenophile. Her father, Silvio Ciccone, started Ciccone Vineyard & Winery in Northern Michigan, the area where she grew up, several years ago. Wine from his barrels is expected to be making the rounds of Madonna's fine wine selections beginning this spring.

Celebrity Cellars also offers limited-edition wines featuring such music icons as the Rolling Stones, the Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Frank Sinatra and Bob Marley. And for those celeb-obsessed aficionados, there's also a Marilyn Merlot, made by another California winemaker, the Marilyn Wine Company.

When not tempting the taste buds of wine connoisseurs, Madonna continues to hype what's being touted as her comeback disc after the underwhelming sales of 2003's American Life, which, despite debuting atop the Billboard charts, failed to yield a Top 10 radio hit for the first time in her career.

The singer, recently back from a promotional trip to Japan, is putting the finishing touches on her latest single, "Sorry," which takes a cue from MTV's Pimp My Ride.
