Last year Fox Searchlight acquired the quirky dark comedy Little Miss Sunshine at the Sundance Film Festival, and they rode that gem all the way to the Academy Awards. This year, the specialty shingle went to Utah and copped Waitress, a heartwarming indie with the lovely Keri Russell and the funny Cheryl Hines.
Will Waitress be this year's crossover smash? It should be, as Russell proves once and for all that she is more than just "the girl from that one TV show." A truly great and timeless performance.
