Beat Ben Update: I Nail Travolta's Flick

For my first week doing Beat Ben @ the Box Office, I give myself a B+. That's honors where I come from.
I pretty much owned the Hairspray numbers—predicting an even $25 million, while it pulled in $27.8 million—but Harry and the Hogwarts let me down. The cash intake was real down for the fifth Potter flick, losing out to lame-o I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, which took in $34.8 million. (Despite the number one title, it's one of Adam Sandler's lowest recent openings.)
It looks like all the Harry fanatics stayed home to read the seventh and final book before the ending gets blabbed about. Also, its five-day opening was so massive, a drop off was inevitable. I just didn't expect it so soon.
Proving how smart you guys are, most Lyons Den readers agreed with my call on Hairspray. Way to stick with me, people.
Next week, we'll play again. The Simpsons, No Reservations and that Lindsay Lohan stripper movie all hit theaters, so get in your picks by Thursday when I make my prediction.
