Lyonne to Plead Guilty to DUI
Cinching a deal with Florida prosecutors, the American Pie actress has agreed to plead guilty to charges of drunken driving stemming from her DUI arrest last year in exchange for not having to do a stint behind bars.
Her attorney, David Rothman, confirmed to the Associated Press that per the terms of her probation, Lyonne will have her driver's license suspended for six months, and she must perform 50 hours of community service. Additionally, her car will be impounded for 10 days, she will face more than $1,000 in fines and court fees, and she must pay to replace the sign she plowed into when she lost control of her rental car near the Fountainbleau Hotel in Miami Beach.
The 23-year-old thespian, who has appeared in both Pie films, as well as Scary Movie 2 and The Slums of Beverly Hills, was busted last August after allegedly driving well over the speed limit at 1:45 a.m., missing a turn, skidding off the road, running up over the curb, demolishing the aforementioned sign and damaging landscaping--all told about $2,500 worth of destruction.
Police say she then backed her car up and tried to leave the scene of the accident, but was quickly apprehended by an officer who witnessed the entire havoc-wreaking incident. The officer smelled alcohol on the actress' breath. At that point, according to the police report, Lyonne said, "I'm a movie star. Can I talk to my entertainment lawyer?" She later admitted to consuming alcohol, police said.
Her passenger, actor Adam Goldberg (Saving Private Ryan), was not injured in the incident and later told the officer he tried to stop her to no avail.
Lyonne's attorney and publicist both declined to comment on the plea deal since the case is still pending in court.
But barring any last minute legal snafus, her probation should become active August 14.
Lyonne is next slated to star opposite ex-beau Edward Furlong in Max and Grace, a cheerful little production in which the twosome will play a couple who meet and get married in a mental institution. After escaping, they set out to kill themselves on their honeymoon, only to find the will to live.
