A Ludacris Christmas Bash

Holiday shoppers went ludicrous for Ludacris.

The rap star had to cut short a charity event at a Montgomery, Alabama, mall Thursday evening, after two fights broke out.

According to the Montgomery Advertiser, Ludicris was in town for WZHT Hot 105/Magic 97's 13th annual Children of Christmas toy drive, signing autographs and posing for pictures with fans.

But mall management did not expect the 100-odd people who arrived with toys to donate--and then had to stew for more than a half-hour for the hip-hopster to make his entrance. The crowd grew restless, jostling for position in line and sparking security concerns.

"We expected a lot of people to show up but not to this degree," Kristy Jansen, marketing director of Montgomery Mall, told the Advertiser. "People were trying to get in through the gate and beat on the glass of the store so we had to stop the event in the interest of safety."

Upon the 2 Fast 2 Furious star's arrival, the fans went wild, and two fight erupted.

The Grammy-nominated star tried to calm the crowd down using a bullhorn, but that only incited skirmishes--and two separate fights erupted, leading mall guards to drop the security gate at the store where the signing was taking place. The Dirty South rapper was escorted from the premises by mall security after just 20 minutes in to an event scheduled for two hours.

Ludacris was unavailable for comment Friday. But the Atlanta native, famed for his raunchy 2001 smash album Word of Mouf, did tell the Advertiser that he had no choice but to vamoose.

"I would have liked to stay, but I understand I was part of the problem," the rapper said. "I tried to talk to them because I wanted the crowd to understand why I had to leave."

No one was arrested in the melee. However, some of those who waited to see Ludacris weren't thrilled with what went down.

"People were acting like idiots," a fan named Eddie Kennedy told the Advertiser. "That's the problem with this city--anything good that happens is going to be ruined by a bunch of knuckleheads."

Knuckleheads aside, Ludacris did donate $300 worth of toys to the campaign.
