Lou Diamond Cops to Battery
He stood. He delivered.
Lou Diamond Phillips pleaded no contest today to one count of domestic battery stemming from an August incident with his live-in girlfriend, Los Angeles City Attorney's Office spokesman Frank Mateljan told E! Online.
The 44-year-old actor was sentenced to three years' probation, one year of domestic violence counseling and 200 hours of community service; the judge also issued a protective order barring from Phillips from coming into contact with the victim, whose identity has been withheld.
Following the sentencing, Phillips exited the Los Angeles courthouse without addressing reporters.
"He's keeping this a private matter," said the La Bamba star's publicist, Eddie Michaels. "Clearly the plea is what it is, and he will abide by the court's decision."
Phillips was arrested at his Northridge, California, home in the early morning hours of Aug. 11 after his companion locked herself in the couple's bathroom and called 911.
According to the prosecutor, the two had gotten into a heated argument that had grown so violent that Phillips allegedly pushed and dragged her through the house, scraping her knees. At the time, his rep termed the incident a "misunderstanding."
The city attorney didn't agree, however, and in September charged Phillips with the misdemeanor domestic battery count, which carries a maximum penalty of up to a year in jail and a $2,000 fine.
The onetime Young Guns star has been firing blanks in his personal life.
Last year, his second wife and the mother of his three daughters, model Kelly Preston (not to be confused with Mrs. John Travolta), filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. His first wife, Julie Cypher, famously ditched him in 1990 after falling in love with rocker Melissa Etheridge during a music video shoot.
At least he has plenty to keep his mind off his personal woes. Phillips recently guest-starred on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Numb3rs and, per IMDb.com, has five films in the works, including Fingerprints, with Laguna Beach's Kristin Cavallari, and the action flick Death Toll, opposite DMX.
