Liz Taylor Settles Sex Suit
Elizabeth Taylor and her former gardener have buried the hatchet.
Hollywood's grand dame has settled a salacious lawsuit brought by the green thumb, who claims he was fired for refusing the advances of Taylor's butler, according to a court clerk.
Willem Van Muyden sued in Los Angeles Superior Court last year for $294,000--10 years' worth of allegedly unpaid gardening services--plus damages.
Both sides were due to converge today to set a trial date, but instead the parties told the judge they had reached a settlement and would file to have the case dismissed.
Details of the settlement were not released, although Taylor's attorney told Los Angeles' City News Service that there was "no exchange of money between plaintiff and defendant." Calls to Taylor and Van Muyden's attorneys on Wednesday were not returned.
Van Muyden worked for the two-time Oscar winner from 1989 until he was pink-slipped in 2002. In his lawsuit, the landscaper claims he was terminated in retaliation for rebuffing French butler Jean-Luc Lacquement, who was also a defendant in the suit.
Van Muyden charges Taylor acted "at the request and/or suggestion" of Lacquement. In addition to sexual harassment, his lawsuit accuses the Cleopatra queen of wrongful termination and breach of oral contract.
It also claims Taylor, a pioneering AIDS activist, discriminated against Van Muyden because he was straight.
Lacquement's sexual orientation was, according to the suit, a little murkier. Aside from allegedly coming on to Van Muyden, the supposedly bisexual butler proffered his sexual services to Taylor, which he so lovingly referred to as having to "jump the old trampoline," according to court papers.
Taylor denied the allegation.
An equal opportunist, Lacquement also allegedly put the moves on the garden guy, after proclaiming he felt "good and horny." Van Muyden "pushed Jean-Luc away" and within two months was out on his keister, accused of hiring illegal aliens and threatening her staff, the lawsuit says.
Taylor has largely stayed out of the public eye since retiring from acting last year, save for a statement she released following the arrest of her friend Michael Jackson that said the pop singer "is absolutely innocent" and will be "vindicated."
