Lindsay's Old Smashup Fuels New Claim

Lindsay Lohan's current stay in rehab might prove to be a welcome respite from driving, as well.

An event supply company filed suit against the actress last month in small claims court, accusing Lohan of causing damage to one of its vans about a year and a half ago and ignoring requests to foot the bill. (View the complaint here.)

The accident, which occurred Oct. 4, 2005, was well-documented at the time as the second in what would be a series of allegedly shutterbug-induced smashups, with Lohan's rep calling it "another example of the paparazzi endangering citizens." (A photographer had intentionally bumped his car into Lohan's earlier that year.)

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which determined at the time that the paparazzi were not a factor in the collision, Lohan was heading north on Robertson Boulevard, home of the Ivy and various other celebrity watering holes, when she crashed her black Mercedes convertible into a maroon Chevy Astro Van that was making an illegal U-turn.

An entertainment reporter who witnessed the crash said that Lohan was "driving really fast."

Per the police, the driver of the Chevy was rushed to a nearby hospital after suffering "moderate injuries," while Lohan and her passenger, who at first ducked into a nearby boutique to wait out the tow-truck, police, etc., were also eventually taken by ambulance to the hospital to be treated for "minor injuries."

The van that Lohan smashed into then hit an unoccupied parked white van belonging to Grandeur Inc., causing $3,624.84 in damage, according to the complaint filed May 18 at the Beverly Hills Courthouse and obtained by E! Online.

Grandeur CEO Florian Loeckle claims that a letter to the Georgia Rule star informing her of the outstanding bill went unanswered. A judge is set to hear the issue on June 20.

It's likely that someone else is monitoring Lohan's mail for the time being, considering the 20-year-old starlet is currently being treated for an addiction to alcohol and various drugs, including the painkiller OxyContin, at the Promises treatment center in Malibu.

Lohan checked in May 28 and is expected to spend 30 days at the facility.
