Lindsay's Dad Offered Help Days Before Arrest

Lindsay Lohan's father says a drug counselor talked to his daughter at his behest on the phone last week—just days before her arrest for driving under the influence, E! Online has learned.

Jimmy Jack, founder and executive director of Long Island's Teen Challenge, a faith-based drug rehab program, agreed to talk to Lindsay by phone, trying to convince the 20-year-old actress she needed to change her life.

"Jimmy and I have talked about Lindsay a lot," Michael Lohan tells E! Online. "About ways to help her. And then Jimmy told me he felt like he should reach out to her personally. So, I gave him her phone number and told him to call."

Michael Lohan, who recently completed a 21-month sentence for assault and DUI, became sober and began studying to be a Teen Challenge counselor while behind bars. He also became a devout Christian and said he is preparing to become an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God Church.

Since his release, he said he has tried frequently to reach out to Lindsay, but she has cut all ties with him.

"I know I'm not entirely innocent," the elder Lohan says. "I'm not trying to be a hypocrite. But I'm trying to change. And I want that for Lindsay, too."

Jack confirms to E! Online that he reached Lindsay on her cell phone as she was on her way to a dinner party.

"I just told her, 'You know, I'm from Long Island, too,' " he says. "And I said, 'I used to run the streets, partied worse than you! I lived a crazy lifestyle, too. But then God got ahold of me.' "

Jack says Lindsay was very gracious, even thanking him when Jack told her he was praying for her. "We could all use a little prayer," he recalls her responding.

"I just wanted to open the door for her," Jack adds. "I told her, ‘I'm here for you, your father is here for you.' And she seemed thankful—very, very thankful."

And then, about a week later, around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, police arrested Lindsay for suspicion of driving under the influence, after she lost control of her Mercedes SL-65 convertible, hurling it over a curb and into a clump of trees along Sunset Boulevard. Officials for the Beverly Hills Police Department said Lohan could face additional charges after officers discovered a "usable amount" of "additional contraband," which they believe was cocaine.

Lindsay has not spoken publicly about the wreck, which left her briefly hospitalized, but the incident has hardly slowed her partying. Less than 24 hours later, she was spotted at a Memorial Day pool party at the Hollywood Roosevelt, before moving on to the hotel's celebrity-studded nightclub, Teddy's. Insiders tell E! Online Lindsay was there until 4 a.m. with her close pal, Los Angeles deejay Samantha Ronson. Paparazzi photos of the pair piling out of the club show an ill-looking Lindsay on her knees near a tree, a bodyguard hovering overhead.

Michael Lohan, who says he found out about his daughter's arrest Saturday night while in the middle of a Teen Challenge youth rally for addicted kids, has not been able to contact her since then.

"I've called her half a dozen times," he says. "But her assistant won't put her on the phone. But what I would tell her is that she needs to clean house and start over. She needs to turn this around and then she can send out a positive message to everyone who's watching her. What a miracle that would be!"

For now, Lohan says he's continuing a bitter custody battle with Lindsay's mother, Dina, to regain visitation rights for 18-year-old son Michael, 12-year-old daughter Aliana and 10-year-old son Dakota. He says he and his family have not been able to see Lindsay or her younger siblings in three years. Michael and Dina Lohan will appear in Long Island's Nassau County Family Court on June 8 to hammer out the issue.
