Lindsay's Dad Heading to Lockup
Lindsay Lohan isn't going to have worry about her daddy dearest for awhile.
Michael Lohan, the Teenage Drama Queen's oft-troubled paternal unit, was sentenced on Friday to a prison term of up to four years for a litany of misdeeds, ranging from assault to DUI, over the past several months.
The elder Lohan, 44, begged Nassau County (New York) Court Judge Claire Weinberg to send him back to alcohol rehab instead of a state lockup, but the judge refused, citing a pattern of behavior destructive to himself and his family.
Most recently, Lohan was facing several counts stemming from a booze-fueled, near-fatal car wreck on Long Island in February.
Lohan registered a sky-high blood-alcohol level of 0.14, nearly two times the legal limit of 0.08. Additionally, the drunken driving was a violation of his probation and derailed a plea bargain he struck to avoid jail for assaulting his brother-in-law last summer.
The Freaky Friday star's made-for-the-tabloids pop has a long history of legal woes, including a four-year sentence for stock fraud when Lindsay was a little girl.
But he really began spiraling out of control in December 2003, when he was arrested for punching a Manhattan sanitation worker who was allegedly blocking his car; Lohan was sentenced to anger-management courses.
Last June, Michael was taken into custody after whacking his brother-in-law with a shoe at a family gathering. That same month, he was nabbed again for allegedly walking out on a $3,384 hotel bill, an arrest he blamed on a bad credit card, not bad behavior.
Lohan was arrested twice in November for violating a restraining order obtained by his estranged wife, Dina. He was sentenced to one month in alcohol rehab. Upon his release in December, Dina slapped him with divorce papers. Michael responded by filing court papers saying he deserved millions of dollars of Lindsay's earnings.
In court Friday, about the only thing that went Michael Lohan's way was Weinberg's refusal to grant a protective order on behalf of his A-list daughter. The judge said that since Lindsay was now 18, she would have to file for the order on her own. Prosecutor Joy Watson said she would contact the entertainer and see if she wanted to follow through.
Lindsay, who has repeatedly snubbed her father in recent months, did not immediately comment on his pending incarceration.
She next appears on the big screen in Disney's Herbie: Fully Loaded, an update of Herbie the Love Bug, which hits theaters June 24.
