Lindsay Lohan Aims for Iraq
While she prefers to be perceived as a serious thespian, Lindsay Lohan also wouldn't mind being a little bit like Bob Hope.
When asked whether she had any big plans for next year, the 20-year-old actress told Elle magazine in an interview for the September issue that what she would really like to do is visit Iraq with Senator Hillary Clinton.
"Hillary was trying to work it out but it seemed too dangerous," Lohan, who also graces the cover, said. "I wanted to do what Marilyn Monroe did, when she went and just set up a stage and did a concert for the troops all by herself. It's so amazing seeing that one woman just going somewhere, this beautiful sex kitten, who's basically a pinup, which is what I've always aspired to be." (Well, technically, the USO set up the stage?)
After Lohan's breakout turn in Mean Girls she drew comparisons to another fiery redhead--and pinup fave--Ann-Margaret, who, incidentally, entertained U.S. soldiers during the Vietnam War. Monroe famously performed for more than 100,000 American troops in Korea, many of whom also had her photo tacked up by their bunks.
So bring on the bombshell status, but, as Lohan has either said or implied in multiple high-profile magazine interviews this year, ix-nay on the "teen queen" label. And for goodness' sake, give her some space! (That means you, paparazzi.)
"Hollywood is about reality-show stars, taking people's boyfriends, and tabloids making up stories, and not about the work and the art, the craft," she said. "Stop writing about me and start writing about how people are dying overseas for our country."
Lohan unleashed some of her waning patience with the media last week in a letter to celebrity gossip purveyor Perez Hilton, in which she described the actions of the people who seem to be chronicling her every move as "disgusting."
At least traveling to Iraq would give journalists a chance to both write about her and about how soldiers are fighting and dying overseas. The Prairie Home Companion player had better bring her sunscreen and Evian, however, because she and severe heat apparently don't mix well. Lohan was treated at a hospital for dehydration and heat exhaustion two weeks ago.
But Lohan isn't afraid of a little helter-skelter.
"I'm not afraid of going," she said. "My security guard is going to take me to a gun range when I get back to L.A., and I'm going to start taking shooting lessons. He says if I'm going to go there I should really know how to shoot. Yeah, I have a dark side. I watched all those videos on Charles Manson for a while."
Wow. All Marilyn had to do was sing.
