Lindsay Drives Duo to Court
Lindsay Lohan's acting and singing skills have netted her millions of dollars, but it's her driving ability--or lack thereof--that may cost her big bucks.
The Freaky Friday star was hit with a lawsuit Wednesday by two Los Angeles residents who claim Lohan injured them in a car accident last summer.
In their Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit, Eddie Pamilton and Ilex Harris finger Lohan for rear-ending Pamilton's vehicle on Laurel Canyon Boulevard on Aug. 3. Or, as the suit ineloquently puts it, Lohan "negligently owned, controlled, repaired, entrusted, maintained and operated an automobile as to cause it to, and it did, become involved in an accident or collision, injuring and damaging plaintiffs."
Pamilton and Ilex contend the crash at the hands of the Mean Girls actress left them with continuing "pain, discomfort and physical disability."
In addition to the pair's alleged "personal injuries," they blame Lohan for the temporary loss of their ride, which apparently needed some servicing after their unfortunate brush with greatness on Laurel Canyon.
The crash was captured for posterity by paparazzi shots showing Lohan, in ball cap and flip-flops, her passenger and one of the plaintiffs surveying the damage caused by her Mercerdes (with the vanity plate ILLEGALL). Per the photos, neither vehicle seems terribly dinged up.
The suit seeks unspecified damages and compensation for medical expenses and lost income.
Lohan's reps were not immediately available for comment Wednesday night.
If that weren't bad enough, also on Wednesday, Lohan's estranged father, Michael, filed his official response to a divorce petition brought by wife Dina. Michael Lohan says he wants half the 15 percent Lindsay pays her mother--which could add up to $7 million a year--and wants Dina Lohan and other members of her family to submit to drug and alcohol testing.
Michael Lohan's attorney says his sobriety-challenged client has been clean for weeks after a stint in court-ordered rehab.
"He is not an alcoholic, he is not a drug addict," attorney Dominic Barbara told reporters Wednesday. "He loves his children, he doesn't want to hurt Lindsay in any way."
Barbara said he went public only after Dina Lohan's lawyers refused to work out a settlement.
"I tried to do this amicably," Michael Lohan said Wednesday. "I didn't want this to happen."
Dan Klores, a spokesman for Dina Lohan, told Reuters, "There's no point in dignifying the desires of a convicted felon who the court has already demanded stay away from his wife and children."
The divorce is one of many items on the elder Lohan's docket. He is due in Long Island court next week on charges of skipping out on a $3,800 hotel. His rap sheet over the past year also includes punching a New York sanitation worker and whacking his brother-in-law in the head with a shoe at a family gathering.
Despite the distractions, the 18-year-old Teenage Drama Queen's career continues to be in overdrive. Her debut disc, Speak, is currently number 47 on the Billboard Hot 200 and was recently certified platinum. And her next film, the recently wrapped Herbie: Fully Loaded, is due in theaters June 24.
