Lead Kink Gets Capped
A mugger really got Ray Davies going over the weekend.
The Kinks' frontman was shot in the leg Sunday night after chasing a couple muggers through the streets of New Orleans.
The 59-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and his girlfriend, who were in town for vacation, were accosted by two thieves while walking through the French Quarter around 8:30 p.m. After the men snagged her purse, Davies leapt into action, chasing after the bad guys.
According to New Orleans' finest, the muggers unloaded on the Kink, clipping him in the right thigh.
Davies was treated at a local hospital and released Monday. His companion was not hurt.
"It is not really serious. He should be up and about in a day or so," Davies' manager, Deke Arlon, told CNN. "The message that came back to me was that he is in good spirits."
Cops have one suspect, the man who apparently did the shooting, in custody and are currently on the hunt for the other purse-snatcher.
Davies himself could not immediately be reached for comment on his shooting. But we're guessing the British crooner behind such hits as "You Really Got Me" and "All Day and All of the Night" might have been feeling noble.
Last week, he was deemed a Commander of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II, a notch below knighthood, for his service to music. Fellow rocker Eric Clapton also received a CBE as part of the Queen's New Year's Honors.
