Law Pays Visit to Jude Law

Last week the law stepped into the troubled marriage of the Laws--Jude Law and Sadie Frost.

That's the news coming out of England, where the media have been reporting that police were called to the actors' London home after the couple's nanny alerted them to an alleged domestic disturbance.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson told BBC News Online that officers responded to a call on June 5 from an address in North West London after "reports a woman had been assaulted." The spokesperson said, "The female occupant was uninjured and did not wish to substantiate the earlier allegation. No further investigation was undertaken by police."

The police refused to confirm the identity of the parties involved.

ITV, meanwhile, reports that the police later interviewed Law about the incident, but no arrest was made. As a matter of routine, an officer tells ITV, the incident was passed on to the police community safety unit. "In every case of this kind, whether complaints are pursued or not, the parties are visited afterwards to make sure everything is okay," the officer said.

Matters have not been okay for some time between Law and Frost.

Their marriage has been near the breaking point for months, according to the British press, with Frost receiving treatment at a London clinic for severe postpartum depression following the premature birth last September of their son, Rudy.

The couple--both supposedly named from famous Beatle songs, she for "Sexy Sadie" (the lyrics of which he has tattooed on his arm), he for "Hey, Jude"--married in 1997. They are also the parents of seven-year-old Rafferty and two-year-old Iris, who hit the headlines last October when she was rushed to hospital after swallowing part of an Ecstasy tablet she had reportedly picked up off the floor at a children's party in a private club. Frost, 37, has a 12-year-old son, Finlay, from her previous marriage to Spandau Ballet rock musician and actor Gary Kemp.

The tabloid press, which has been closely following Law's marital woes and the couple's splits and subsequent efforts at reconciliation, recently alleged the handsome 30-year-old was having an affair with Nicole Kidman, with whom he stars in the upcoming Civil War love drama Cold Mountain. Law denied those allegations, issuing a statement saying there is no third party involved in his marriage and "to suggest otherwise is malicious, hurtful and libelous."

Law earned a Best Supporting Oscar nomination in 2000 as the glamorous murder victim in The Talented Mr. Ripley and has starred as a sexy robot in A.I and an creepy killer in Road to Perdition.

Frost is best known for playing a fair maid turned vampire in Bram Stoker's Dracula; she has also appeared in The Ideal Husband and Love, Honor and Obey and is co-owner of the British fashion label Frost French.
