Larry King Unplugged

Larry King may take a licking, but he keeps on ticking...and should be good to go for a long time.

The CNN talk show host is "doing great" after undergoing vascular surgery Friday and is expected to be back at work on Monday, the network said in a statement.

Doctors at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center performed a carotid endarterectomy on the 73-year-old King, a procedure to remove fat deposits, or plaque, from the carotid arteries in the neck, which deliver blood and oxygen to the brain.

Build-up in the carotid arteries can lead to strokes or other "cardiovascular accidents," per the Gale Encyclopedia of Surgery.

CNN expects its signature talker to be back at the mike in no time.

"Larry is doing great and he is excited to be back on the air Monday night with an interview with Senator Barack Obama as we mark the fourth anniversary of the Iraq war," the network says in a statement.

King underwent quintuple bypass surgery in 1987 after suffering a major heart attack, prompting him to quit his three-pack-a-day smoking habit and start the Larry King Cardiac Foundation, which funds care for cardiac patients who have cannot afford or have limited insurance.

The Larry King Live frontman personally meets with or calls everyone who receives aid from his organization and, as of June 2006, the foundation had doled out more than $4.5 million for surgeries and other treatments.

King and seventh wife Shawn Southwick, 47, swapped vows a day earlier than they had planned in September 1997 so that King could undergo an angioplasty three days later in New York. The May-December couple tied the knot in a Los Angeles hospital room in front of about 20 friends and family members.
