Kutcher Still Friendly with MTV

Looks like there's no hard feelings between MTV and Punk'd plug-puller Ashton Kutcher.

Despite the trucker hat-clad cut-up's surprise yanking of his hit hidden-camera show, Kutcher has remained on good terms with MTV.

In fact, the actor is so chummy with the teen-friendly network that he is currently developing a new project titled My New Best Friend for MTV's 2004 season.

While the That '70s Show star will co-executive produce his latest endeavor, he's not expected to serve in the same loud-mouth on-air capacity he displayed in Punk'd.

My New Best Friend is based on a British show by the same name. Contestants can win cash prizes if they are able to convince friends and family that a person that they have never met before--really a member of Kutcher's goon squad--is their, you guessed it, new best friend.

Hidden cameras will capture the hilarity sure to ensue.

Jason Goldberg, Kutcher's co-principal at shingle Katalyst Films is optimistic about the show's potential.

"We looked at Punk'd as a great platform for improv actors," Goldberg told the Hollywood Reporter. "This is also a show where improv actors really take it to the limit."

As long as Kutcher's trademark frat boy klatch is tuned way down, we're willing to give it a shot. No airdate has yet been set.

It's possible that this latest project was the impetus behind Kutcher dropping out of Cameron Crowe's upcoming project Elizabethtown--allegedly the actor had scheduling conflicts that made him unavailable. (Though wagging tongues have hinted that Kutcher's acting prowess--or lack thereof--led to his dismissal.)

Crowe has been on the hunt for an actor to replace Kutcher in the lead role opposite Kirsten Dunst--and Lord of the Rings hunk Orlando Bloom is at the top of his list. Bloom is reportedly in early discussions regarding the role.

Kutcher will be seen soon enough on the big screen however--he stars in New Line's upcoming drama The Butterfly Effect opposite Amy Smart. The film opens January 23.
