So just who is this gutsy guy who asked out Kristin Cavallari on a whim?
"What made me ask Kristin to the ball? I always thought she was a beautiful girl," U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Jonathan Burkett, whose date to last night's Marine Corps Ball in San Diego was none other than the former Hills star, exclusively told E! News Friday.
Burkett invited Cavallari via Twitter—he wasn't able to make a snazzy YouTube video from where he was stationed—back in August, and...what came next surprised him.
"She wrote back so quick it just caught me off guard completely," Burkett said.
Happily, he regrouped, made it home safe, and then it was go-time.
While Burkett was, of course, fully suited up in his dress blues, Cavallari was a vision in a strapless, Grecian-style gown by Maria Lucian-Hohan, accented simply with diamond earrings, moonstone bangles and a chunky cocktail ring.
You can imagine the overall effect she had on her date.
Burkett admitted that he was "very, very nervous" when Cavallari finally arrived (after tweeting about the bumper-to-bumepr traffic she was stuck in), but that once they started talking, he relaxed and they "had a blast."
He told E! that Cavallari stuck to non-alcoholic beverages at the ball because she had to get up early today to work on a new routine for her appearance on the Dancing WIth the Stars finale on Monday.
When asked whether he managed to snag a good-night kiss upon evening's end, Burkett laughed but chivalrously told us, "I don't kiss and tell."
We doubt Cavallari's main man, Jay Cutler, has anything to worry about though—Burkett's got the utmost respect for the Chicago Bears quarterback, who hooked him up with a signed jersey.
"@JayCutler6 hey man glad she was able to come! You have an awesome gf and hopefully wife!" Burkett tweeted to him this morning.
